Coming soon: Label Lockdown and Restriction in Jira
We are excited to announce upcoming changes to the Label functionality within Jira! These new features will provide better control and consistency when managing labels across your Jira issues.
Key Features Coming Soon
1. Lockdown Label Field
As part of this enhancement, project admins will have the ability to lock down the label field for specific projects. This will prevent users from adding new labels directly to issues, ensuring greater consistency and control over which labels are used in your project.
Who Can Control: Project-level admins
Impact: Users will not be able to add new labels or delete labels to issues once this setting is enabled.
2. Restrict Label Creation to Specific Labels
To maintain uniformity, Jira will allow admins to restrict the labels available to users. When configuring labels, admins can select a predefined set of labels that users can choose from.
Manage Label Screen: Users will still be able to create labels but only from a list of approved labels on the "Vamhi labele" setting screen.
Limit New Labels on Issue Screens: After selecting from the predefined labels, users will not be able to create new labels on the individual issue screens.
Configurable Options: Admins will be able to set the maximum number of labels that can be used, ensuring users can only pick from a restricted, controlled set of labels.
How This Will Work:
Admin Configuration: Project admins will configure which labels can be used and specify whether the label field is locked or restricted.
User Experience: When working with issues, users will only see the labels available in the predefined list. If the field is locked, they will not be able to add any labels.
Manage Labels Screen: Users will be able to view and manage labels on the screen, but the option to create new labels will be limited to the specified set.
Why This Is Important
These updates will ensure greater control and consistency in label management. By restricting the labels users can create and apply, project admins can avoid the chaos of having too many labels or irrelevant labels in the system. The ability to lock down the label field on issues adds another layer of governance to keep projects on track.
Stay Tuned for further updates! We’ll notify you once these features are live and available for your projects.
